About the role

Quest Diagnostics is hiring a Medical Laboratory Scientist II in Edison, NJ. This role is a hospital-based position at JFK. Shift: Saturday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments/procedures in the department.
  • Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument/equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
  • Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
  • Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Report deviations from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate with investigations.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports.
  • May assist with lead responsibilities during absence of supervisor.

Qualifications

  • One (1) year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting (high complexity testing).
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with most current year in present department.
  • Frequent standing and working at the bench for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds frequently.
  • Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented and able to prioritize tasks independently.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology preferred; or Bachelor's/Associate's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or Laboratory Science/Medical Technology, or previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.
  • ASCP Certification (preferred).
  • MLS, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Lab Scientist, Med Tech, Medical Technologist, CLS, Clinical Lab Scientist.

Pay and Schedule

  • Pay range: $32.00 - $50.73 / hour.
  • Sign-on Bonus: $5,000 (external candidates only).

Schedule

Shift: Saturday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
