About the role

Department: General Lab
Location: Bangor, ME
Shift: Monday to Friday, 10:00PM - 8:00AM, with rotational weekends
Pay Range: Minimum of $32.17+ per hour; shift differential available.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments/procedures.
  • Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument/equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
  • Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
  • Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Report deviations from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate with investigations.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports.
  • May assist with lead responsibilities during absence of a Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • One (1) year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting (high complexity testing).
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with most current year in present department.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 36 pounds frequently.
  • Standing and working at the bench for long periods.
  • Frequent walking and/or standing.
  • Manual dexterity to use various laboratory instruments and apparatuses.
  • Theoretical and operational knowledge in designated specialty.
  • Prioritized job knowledge in organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
  • Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry.
  • ASCP Certification preferred.
  • MLS, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Lab Scientist, Med Tech, Medical Technologist, CLS, Clinical Lab Scientist credentials.

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
