About the role

The Medical Laboratory Scientist II position is located in Cleveland, OH, working Tuesday to Saturday from 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM. The role is part-time, with a pay range of $33.00 per hour, potentially with a 10% to 15% shift differential based on hours worked.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments and procedures.
  • Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
  • Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround times and report critical results to clients.
  • Ensure reagents/test kits are dated and properly stored, perform and document QC analysis, and make quality control decisions regarding assay disposition.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for physician review and interpretation.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
  • Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed.
  • Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel.
  • Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.
  • May assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor.

Qualifications

  • One (1) year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting, or minimum of 3 years clinical experience with most recent year in the present department.
  • BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493. 1433.
  • ASLRCS, ASCP certification preferred.
  • MLS, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Lab Scientist, Med Tech, Medical Technologist, CLS, Clinical Lab Scientist.

Skills

  • Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially in handling confidential client information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
