About the role
The Medical Laboratory Scientist II position is located in Cleveland, OH, working Tuesday to Saturday from 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM. The role is part-time, with a pay range of $33.00 per hour, potentially with a 10% to 15% shift differential based on hours worked.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments and procedures.
- Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
- Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
- Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround times and report critical results to clients.
- Ensure reagents/test kits are dated and properly stored, perform and document QC analysis, and make quality control decisions regarding assay disposition.
- Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for physician review and interpretation.
- Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
- Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
- Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
- Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
- Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed.
- Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel.
- Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.
- May assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor.
Qualifications
- One (1) year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting, or minimum of 3 years clinical experience with most recent year in the present department.
- BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493. 1433.
- ASLRCS, ASCP certification preferred.
- MLS, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Lab Scientist, Med Tech, Medical Technologist, CLS, Clinical Lab Scientist.
Skills
- Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented and able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially in handling confidential client information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
