Medical Laboratory Scientist II

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments/procedures.
• Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument/equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
• Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
• Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping.
• Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
• Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
• Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
• Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
• Report deviations from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate with investigations.
• Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports.
• May assist with lead responsibilities in the absence of a Supervisor.

Qualifications

• One (1) year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting (high complexity testing).
• Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with most current year in present department.
• Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds frequently, and objects over 50 pounds with assistance.
• Standing and working at the bench for long periods, frequent walking, and use of various manual and automated laboratory instruments.
• Theoretical and operational job knowledge in designated specialty required.
• Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
• BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493. 1433.
• ASCP Certification preferred.
• MLS, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Lab Scientist, Med Tech, Medical Technologist, CLS, Clinical Lab Scientist.

Prior to Employment

• Must adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
• Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel.
• May be required to participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.

About the Role

Performs test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring the exercise of independent judgement and responsibility in specialties qualified by education, training, and experience. Employee may be eligible to receive shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Additional details on shift differential will be provided if an offer is extended.
