Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Performs all required procedures related to counting and identification of blood cells, coagulation studies and other specialized hematologic procedures.
Inoculates, cultivates, classifies and identifies microorganisms found in bodily fluids, exudates, skin scrapings, and surgical specimens in order to provide data on cause, cure and prevention of infectious diseases.
Performs surveys and does comparative analyses of different systems and assays; may participate in research activities and investigates new products, equipment, techniques, methodologies, and introduces, demonstrates, effects, and recommends as is appropriate.
Receives blood specimens sent to laboratory or draws blood from patient by venipuncture, observing strict principles of asepsis and antisepsis to prevent infection of patient and contamination of specimens.
Analyzes Samples of patients such as blood, urine, or tissue and verifies results.
Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains according to standard formulas and procedures.
Reviews and reports test results to ensure quality control.
Consults with Pathologist regarding difficult analyses or abnormal findings.
Cross matches donor's and patient's blood to determine compatibility.
Studies morphology of red cells in terms of proportions of cells in various stages of development and other characteristics of red corpuscles which may be related to disease processes.
Collects blood specimens from newborn through geriatric patients by venipuncture or capillary collection, as appropriate.
May perform duties as a lead technologist for Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Urology, and Coagulation.
