Medical Laboratory Scientist/Cert/UKHC
Grade Level 11 • Full-Time • Three 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) per week. May include call based on needs of the department.
About the Role
The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Certified will perform clinical laboratory testing in a fast-paced academic medical center. The Laboratory provides services to all aspects of this Level I trauma center and throughout the healthcare enterprise, including solid organ and bone marrow transplant, KY Children’s Hospital, and Markey Cancer Center. This position will be instrumental in maintaining a quality of service based on accuracy and timely result reporting.
The Core Lab has multiple testing sites within the organization: Chandler, Good Samaritan, ED Satellite, and Markey Satellite. The CAP-accredited laboratory at the University of Kentucky showcases state-of-the-art instrumentation and technology.
Responsibilities
- Perform clinical laboratory testing in areas including, but not limited to, blood gas, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, and urinalysis.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field (see equivalency information).
- No prior experience required.
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods, including occasional standing or walking while carrying objects up to 10 pounds.
- Push/pull objects over 50 pounds.
- Sitting at computer workstations for extended periods.
- Repetitive motion tasks.
Pay
$27.00–$45.70/hour. Starting pay is based on candidate’s experience, with a minimum hourly rate of $27.00.
