Medical Lab Technician (Per Diem) - Automated Testing Lab
SUMMARY OF POSITION
Responsible to perform complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues. Identify bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms, analyze chemical content of fluids, and cross match blood for transfusion and organ transplantation. Aseptically prepare cells for use in cellular therapies. The results of these tests are used in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S)
- Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited program (NAACLS/ABHES)
- Associate degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college/university with 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semesters of biology, and twelve (12) semester hours of courses in chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination
- Proof of eligibility to sit for an applicable certification exam (ASCP, AMT, ACHI or equivalent)
- Certification through ASCP, AMT, ACHI or an equivalent certification agency must be obtained within 18 months of employment for all Medical Lab Technicians at the Penn State Health, Milton S. Hershey Department of Pathology
