About the Role
This position performs routine laboratory tests and specimen collection, enters test results into the computer-based data system, and supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare. The role is essential for providing quality patient care and assisting in diagnosis.
Responsibilities
- Perform accurate routine and occasional specialized technical procedures under the direction of a medical technologist, supervisor, or lead technologist.
- Conduct quality control on instruments, equipment, and reagents to maintain high-quality laboratory services and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate abnormal test results and resolve instrument problems to ensure the validity of reported results.
- Enter test results into the laboratory computer system accurately and promptly to meet expected turn-around times.
- Interface professionally with physicians, hospital departments, and other professionals regarding test results and concerns.
- Monitor equipment and supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels for continuous operation.
- Perform proficiency testing on external and internal specimens to adhere to regulatory requirements.
- Assist with training new associates and participate in educational in-services and monthly proficiency testing programs to maintain competencies.
- Collect and label blood specimens in compliance with departmental needs and expectations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate of Science with a degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician, or equivalent military training/certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician, and ASCP eligibility.
- ASCP certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (required or eligible) or NCA certification (required or eligible).
- One to two years of relevant experience preferred.

Pay
MLT Pay Range: $28.03 - $39.24
MT Pay Range: $35.77 - $53.65
