About the Role

Join our team as an evening shift, full-time Medical Lab Technician in Athens, TX. UT Health Athens is a 127-bed facility featuring a 24-hour emergency department, a Level IV trauma center, Level III stroke center, advanced diagnostic technology, a 10-bed ICU, maternity unit, radiation therapy center, and a stand-alone emergency department in Gun Barrel City.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, preventative maintenance, and minor equipment repairs.
  • Manage inventory control and statistical compilation.
  • Participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, laboratory education, new employee training, and proficiency testing.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for clinical laboratory testing that pertains to patient care and diagnosis.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technician studies or a chemical, physical, or biological science.
  • ASCP certification or equivalent; certification must be maintained without lapse during employment. If certification lapses, the role will be downgraded to Medical Laboratory Technician (non-certified) until reinstated.
  • Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles.
  • Previous clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist within a clinical laboratory.
