About the role
Medical Lab Technician in Microbiology, responsible for specimen evaluation, performing routine and complex tests, troubleshooting instrumentation, preparing reagents, and reporting accurate results to support patient care.
Responsibilities
- Assess specimen acceptability based on established criteria
- Conduct technical procedures per Standard Operating Procedures
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
- Make technical decisions and resolve testing issues
- Prepare and evaluate reagents and controls
- Perform preventative maintenance and quality control
- Manage testing supplies and assist with specimen processing
- Maintain a safe work environment with proper protective gear
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
- At least 3 months of clinical laboratory experience or MLT degree
- NY State MLT license
- Preferred: ASCP or AMT certification
Skills
- Understanding of laboratory operations and policies
- Experience in high-volume labs, ability to work independently or in teams
- Proficiency with computers and laboratory information systems
- Attention to detail, strong communication and organization skills
- Physical ability to perform duties, pass color blindness test
- Flexibility for overtime or shift changes as needed
Pay
Pay range is $27–$36 plus shift differential.
