Essential Responsibilities
- Performs only those moderate and high complexity tests authorized by the Laboratory Medical Director and requiring skills consistent with the individual’s education, training, and experience.
- Follows established procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance.
- Maintains proficiency testing and records demonstrating that proficiency samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Adheres to quality control policies and documents all quality control activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
- Follows established procedures when test systems fall outside acceptable performance levels.
- Identifies issues that may affect test performance or results and either corrects them or promptly notifies the appropriate supervisor or the Laboratory Medical Director.
- Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
- Produces consistently accurate work with strong attention to detail and promotes high quality standards among peers.
- Communicates clearly and appropriately, using sound judgment in determining what information to share and how to convey it.
- Works independently with minimal supervision, follows written and verbal instructions, seeks guidance when needed, and makes decisions in the absence of a supervisor or director.
- Demonstrates the job knowledge and technical skills required to perform duties competently in daily operations.
- Applies all safety protocols consistently, avoids shortcuts that increase risk, and actively identifies and reports unsafe practices.
Education and Training
- Associate degree and successful completion of a Medical Technology program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA), or equivalent training, education, and experience such as military.
- Six months of full-time clinical laboratory experience required.
Licensure and Certification
- Appropriate licensure or certification as required by state and federal regulations.
