Job Summary and Qualifications

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) utilizes skills and training to perform tests on blood, urine, and other body fluids to assist in diagnosing and evaluating patient medical status. They participate in performance improvement activities to ensure continuous quality improvement. They maintain cultural awareness when interacting with patients, visitors, coworkers, and all other customers. They promote a supportive, team-oriented environment.

What You Will Do in This Role

• Handle specimen processing and pre-analytic inspection of specimens for identification and integrity.
• Perform various types of laboratory tests on patient specimens, evaluate test results, and report/enter/verify test results in the Laboratory Information System.
• Evaluate periodic quality control according to policy and procedure.
• Evaluate new and/or modified procedures, reagents, and instruments as directed by the Section Coordinator.
• Troubleshoot all instruments as directed by the Section Coordinator.
• Participate in hospital initiatives and departmental goals set by the Laboratory Director and Manager.

Qualifications You Will Need

• Average degree; Graduated from a NCCLS accredited Medical Technician program.
• Hospital laboratory experience preferred.
