Medical Lab Tech - ASCP - Stat Lab - 2:30pm 11:00pm
About the role
The Medical Laboratory Technician ASCP performs laboratory procedures in a timely and accurate manner according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This position carries out functional duties in the Pre-Analytic, Analytic, and Post-Analytic phases of the laboratory workflow. The technician may be required to share responsibility for delegating work assignments for self and coworkers in the absence of a supervisor or lead.
Responsibilities
- Performs only those moderate and high complexity tests authorized by the Laboratory Medical Director and requiring skills commensurate with education, training, experience, and technical abilities.
- Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Maintains records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Adheres to quality control policies and documents all quality control activities, instrument calibrations, procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
- Follows established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within acceptable performance levels.
- Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results and either corrects the problems or immediately notifies the supervisor or Laboratory Medical Director.
- Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
- Produces consistently accurate work that demonstrates attention to detail and reflects positively on the organization.

Requirements
- Education: Associate degree and successful completion of a Medical Technology program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA), or equivalent training, education, and experience in the military.
- Experience: Six months of full-time clinical laboratory experience required. Clinical laboratory experience gained during an accredited Medical Technology program will satisfy the experience requirement.
Qualifications
- ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized MLT certification or equivalent categorical certification required.
Skills
- Working knowledge of general laboratory equipment such as centrifuges and microscopes.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems, calculators, fax machines, and auto analyzers.
- Basic computer skills required.
