Responsibilities
- Provide interpretation and translation services to Circle of Life patients, families, and staff.
- Serve as a resource to patients, families, and staff, connecting Limited English Proficient patients and families with appropriate resources.
- Provide Spanish interpretation, as well as interpretation in any other spoken or signed languages, if applicable.
- Deliver thorough, timely, and accurate face-to-face and phone interpreting for patients, families, faculty, and staff.
- Provide written language translation to assist with health education materials such as videos, brochures, etc.
- Translate physician’s correspondence with patients and vice versa.
- Establish and maintain quality service and positive interactions with patients, families, faculty, and staff.
- Explain Circle of Life health resources, office protocols, and limitations to patients, families, and staff.
- Assist with patient follow-up as necessary.
- Coordinate foreign language and sign language interpreter services.
- Maintain and update interpreter compliance information in the database according to UWHC guidelines.
- Provide interpreting services at community events and speaking engagements.
- Provide input to committees, task forces, or groups regarding communication needs.
- Collaborate with Circle of Life affiliates to develop and sustain DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) efforts.
- Assist in developing written materials for Spanish-speaking patients and families.
- Demonstrate compassion, empathy, and patience when interacting with patients, families, co-workers, and the public.
- Represent Circle of Life positively in the community.
- Demonstrate flexibility, versatility, and a positive attitude in integrating additional duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Fluency in English and at least one foreign language (oral and written) at a Superior level.
- High level of customer service and a positive approach.
- Five years of experience as a medical interpreter, with a strong medical vocabulary.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. May be asked to provide support after hours and/or on weekends.
