About the role
The Medical Interpreter II, National Certification is responsible for assessing the needs of patients and providing interpretation of medical information. Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in cancer research and patient care.
Responsibilities
- Immediately and effectively answer requests for interpretation throughout the Institute, prioritizing urgent requests.
- Arrive on time to appointments and provide services from entry to discharge.
- Accurately and clearly interpret complex medical information from providers to patients, including consent forms, diagnoses, and discharge plans.
- Accurately and clearly interpret information from patients to providers.
- Assist patients and clinical providers in a professional and courteous manner.
- Evaluate and refer patients to appropriate resources.
- Maintain accurate records of services rendered and document patient information.
- Resolve most issues independently, answer questions, and make appropriate referrals.
- Interpret medical information using in-person, on-campus, video, and telephonic methods.
- Perform translation services as needed.
- Respect and recognize diversity among patients and DFCI workforce.
- Intervene as a cultural broker when communication is compromised by cultural barriers.
- Follow recognized Medical Interpreter Codes of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
- Complete and pass an assessment for initial interpreter screening and ongoing skills assessment every three years.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a human relations field (Sociology, Psychology) preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a medical interpreter.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic procedures.
- National Certification for Medical/Healthcare Interpreters required.

- Fluent in English and target language, both verbally and in writing.

$60,000.00 - $67,800.00
