About the role

Clutch Creative is a rapidly growing staffing agency that supports clients by identifying unreachable talent to help their businesses grow. Candidates work with Clutch because they know the agency offers the best opportunities and helps them navigate their next career move. Clutch is seeking a meticulous, scientifically rigorous Freelance Medical Editor for a client—a premier healthcare and pharmaceutical advertising agency. The role is full‑time freelance, remote, and requires the candidate to be located in and authorized to work in the US. The editor will ensure absolute accuracy, clarity, and regulatory compliance across promotional and educational materials for Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) and patients (DTC).

Responsibilities

  • Copyedit and proofread complex medical, scientific, and promotional materials—including detail aids, digital experiences, websites, brochures, and video scripts—for grammar, punctuation, style, and flow.
  • Meticulously verify all scientific claims, statistics, and data points against source literature, clinical trials, FDA‑approved product labeling, and Prescribing Information (PI).
  • Ensure all copy strictly adheres to the AMA Manual of Style, client‑specific brand guidelines, and agency quality standards.
  • Partner closely with copywriters, art directors, and medical strategists to prepare materials for rigorous Medical, Legal, and Regulatory (MLR/LMR) review, ensuring all references and annotations are flawlessly formatted and compliant.
  • Manage multiple fast‑moving projects simultaneously, communicating effectively with account, creative, and medical teams to keep editorial workflows moving efficiently under tight agency deadlines.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional medical editing experience working directly within dedicated pharmaceutical advertising agencies.
  • Expert‑level command of the AMA Manual of Style and deep familiarity with pharmaceutical regulatory guidelines, referencing standards, and MLR workflows.
  • Proven ability to interpret clinical data, understand intricate medical terminology, and fact‑check complex scientific claims with absolute precision.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong time‑management skills, and the ability to ramp up quickly on freelance assignments with minimal oversight.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Life Sciences, or a related field.
