Medical Director Spine Surgery
About the role
We are seeking a Medical Director in Spine Surgery to join Cohere Health. This role involves providing timely medical reviews, clinical determinations, and documentation, and conducting peer-to-peer discussions with treating providers.
Responsibilities
- Provide timely medical reviews meeting Cohere’s stringent quality parameters
- Make clinical determinations based on evidence-based criteria using clinical acumen
- Document all communication and decision-making in Cohere workflow tools clearly and accurately
- Use correct templates for documenting decisions during case review
- Maintain appropriate turn-around times for clinical reviews
- Conduct timely peer-to-peer discussions with treating providers to clarify clinical information and explain review outcome decisions
- Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and service in interactions with Cohere teammates and providers
- Support projects and operational improvements involving clinical review tasks
Requirements
- Completed US-based residency program in Orthopedic or Neurosurgery Surgery and fellowship program in Spine Surgery
- Board certification as an MD or DO with a current unrestricted state license to practice medicine
- 5+ years of clinical practice beyond residency/fellowship
- 1+ years of managed care utilization review experience
- Membership in national and/or regional specialty societies
- Licensure in AZ, GA, MS, NC, ND, OK, OR, or TX is highly desirable
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree
- Current unrestricted state license to practice medicine
- Experience with managed care utilization review
- Knowledge of clinical and coding validation solutions

- Proficiency in clinical workflow tools

Pay & Perks
The salary range for this position is $260,000 to $280,000 annually. The role is not eligible for hire in AK, CA, CO, HI, NY, or WA.
