Position Summary
The Medical Director, Pediatric Nephrology, provides visionary clinical and operational leadership to establish and grow a comprehensive pediatric nephrology program serving infants, children, and adolescents across inpatient and outpatient settings. This role combines direct patient care with program development, team building, and strategic partnership to ensure high quality, family centered kidney care.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage children with a wide range of kidney and urinary tract conditions, including congenital anomalies, nephrotic syndrome, glomerulonephritis, and hypertension.
- Provide outpatient consultations and inpatient support in coordination with our pediatric hospitalists, intensivists, and subspecialists.
- Educates patients and their families about kidney health, disease management, and preventative measures.
- Collaborates with other healthcare team members to coordinate care plans.
- Provides medical guidance to nursing staff and timely documentation of patient interactions, diagnosis, and treatment within Epic.
- Maintains an evidence-based clinical practice that focuses on managing kidney disease and delaying its progression.
- Teach medical students and residents.
- Build and operationalize inpatient and outpatient nephrology care pathways, consult structures, and referral systems.
- Lead planning and implementation of acute and chronic dialysis capabilities, including protocols, staffing models and quality standards.
- Recruit, mentor, and support nephrologists, advanced practice providers, and dialysis nursing staff as the program expands.
- Partner with institutional leaders to improve outcomes, reduce variation, and support value-based care.
- Collaborate on future transplant readiness.
- Engage in clinical leadership withing the children’s hospital, contributing to strategic planning, service line development, and cross-disciplinary initiatives.
Requirements
- Licensed in Washington State
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatric Nephrology
- Federal DEA certification
- Experience with dialysis and transplant management
- Demonstrated ability to lead clinical programs
- 5 years clinical experience preferred
- Previous leadership experience preferred
