Medical Director (Part-Time)

About the role

Provide medical and clinical oversight of behavioral health and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) services. Serve as Medical Director for Agency behavioral health programs. Deliver direct patient care, including psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, assessments, medication management, psychotropic medication prescribing, and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MOUD/MAT). Offer crisis psychiatric consultation, suicide and violence risk assessments, treatment planning, patient and family education, laboratory review, medication monitoring, and withdrawal management consultation within scope of practice. Provide telepsychiatry services when applicable.

Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings, consulting with therapists, CADCs, counselors, case managers, nursing staff, and leadership to review complex cases and support clinical decision-making for high-risk clients. Engage in quality assurance activities such as periodic chart reviews and documentation sign-offs. Promote evidence-based psychiatric and substance use treatment, and participate in Quality Improvement and Performance Improvement initiatives. Develop, review, and approve clinical policies, procedures, standing orders, and clinical protocols. Assist with strategic planning and service expansion.

Requirements

• Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
• Graduate of an accredited Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program
• Current unrestricted Illinois APRN license
• At least three years of clinical training or experience in community mental health, outpatient, or hospital environments
• Current Illinois Controlled Substance License, DEA Registration, and National Provider Identifier (maintained in good standing)
• Enroll or ability to enroll in Illinois Medicaid
• Eligible for Medicare credentialing and commercial insurance credentialing
• Proficiency with electronic health record software systems
• Familiarity with office equipment (e.g., phone systems, fax machines, copiers)
• Ability to interact professionally with the public in person and on the telephone
• Adhere to the Agency’s Code of Ethics and conduct responsibilities in accordance with the Employee Handbook
• Valid driver’s license, reliable means of transportation, and proof of liability insurance
