Position Summary

The Site Medical Director promotes and provides high-quality medical care under administrative and clinical supervision of the Regional Medical Director. They work collaboratively with various medical professionals and participate in discussions about quality of care, patient safety, and patient complaints.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain utilization management and clinical practice standards through the application of the organization's clinical criteria.
  • Participate in the development of medical/clinical policies and provide case consultation to clinical staff.
  • Represent the organization's clinical philosophy to patients, providers, facility personnel, and the community.
  • Utilize the electronic medical record system throughout the scope of duties and responsibilities.
  • Treat difficult-to-manage patients with chronic disease and utilize corporate clinical experts for assistance.
  • Prepare and present cases at Collegial Review for off-site/specialty care.
  • Ensure appropriate infirmary care is delivered and supervise infirmary rounds.
  • Review and sign-off on labs daily and review care plans for patients returning from hospitalizations, ER runs, and off-site specialty care visits.
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship for staff physicians and mid-level providers.
  • Communicate regularly with dentists, mental health professionals, and optometrists to develop a holistic approach to healthcare.
  • Communicate clinical and administrative issues to Site Manager and Regional Medical Director.
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans for clinical and administrative deficiencies.
  • Perform death and case reviews and participate in monthly reviews of off-site care, DME utilization, provider prescriptive practice, laboratory, and x-ray services.
  • Assist in provider recruiting initiatives and participate in provider training.
  • Participate in audits and ensure site clinical coverage.
  • Share in after-hours and weekend call duties.

Requirements

  • Licenses: Current West Virginia Medical license; Current West Virginia Controlled Substance license; Current DEA Certification.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Education: Medical Degree required. Board certified or Board eligible preferred.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of clinical experience preferred.
