Medical Director - part time

About the role
Under the administrative and clinical supervision of the Regional Medical Director, the Site Medical Director promotes and provides high-quality medical care at Lorrie Yeager Juvenile Center. The role involves collaborating with physicians, physician extenders, dentists, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other medical professionals to ensure patient safety, resolve quality-of-care issues, and address patient complaints or grievances. The Medical Director maintains clinical practice standards, participates in policy development, and ensures the highest level of medical quality and service at the assigned site.
Responsibilities
- Maintain utilization management and clinical practice standards through the organization’s clinical criteria.
- Participate in the development of medical/clinical policies and provide case consultation to clinical staff.
- Utilize the electronic medical record system for all duties and responsibilities.
- Participate in Clinical Case/Disease Management initiatives and treat patients with chronic diseases, utilizing corporate clinical experts as needed.
- Review patients for Collegial Review for off-site/specialty care and present cases at the review.
- Ensure no backlogs occur for chronic care clinics and sick call by collaborating with site providers and the site manager.
- Oversee appropriate infirmary care, supervise infirmary rounds, and review care plans for patients returning from hospitalizations, ER visits, or off-site specialty care.
- Review and sign off on labs daily.
- Provide clinical supervision, leadership, and mentorship to staff physicians and mid-level providers.
- Work closely with the site manager to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
- Respond to guidance from Corporate, State-wide, Regional Medical Directors, and Regional/Site Managers, checking email at least twice daily.
- Address medical grievances with assistance from Site Managers.
- Collaborate with dentists, mental health professionals, and optometrists to develop a holistic approach to patient healthcare.
- Communicate clinical and administrative issues to the Site Manager and Regional Medical Director promptly.
- Develop corrective action plans for clinical and administrative deficiencies in conjunction with Site and Regional Managers.
- Perform death and case reviews before submitting them to the Regional Medical Director.
- Conduct Peer Reviews on Medical Directors/providers from other facilities.
- Participate in monthly reviews of off-site care, DME utilization, provider prescriptive practices, laboratory, and x-ray services.
- Meet regularly with the Warden/AWP to develop strong working relationships with security personnel.
- Assist in provider recruiting initiatives and participate in provider training and audits.
- Ensure site clinical coverage and share after-hours and weekend call duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the State-wide and Regional Medical Directors.
Requirements
- Current West Virginia Medical license.
- Current West Virginia Controlled Substance license.
- Current DEA certification.
- Current CPR certification.
- Medical Degree required.
- Board certified or Board eligible preferred.
- Five (5) years of clinical experience preferred.
