Medical Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

About the Role

The Mount Sinai Health System seeks an academically oriented leader to serve as Medical Director, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai Hospital campus. The Department of Psychiatry is one of New York City’s largest behavioral health programs, ranked #6 nationally in NIH funding and listed among the top regional hospital departments by U.S. News & World Report. This role oversees all clinical aspects of care at the Mount Sinai Hospital, a 1,171-bed tertiary-care facility located on the Upper East Side of New York City, adjacent to the Icahn School of Medicine.

The campus is home to a Psychiatry residency program and several subspecialty fellowships, fostering a vibrant community of clinicians, researchers, educators, and trainees committed to advancing mental health care and substance use disorder treatment.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric services to patients, including assessment, evaluation, and psychopharmacological treatment.
• Offer psychiatric and clinical consultation to other mental health practitioners as indicated.
• Comply with all mental health care protocols consistent with established practice standards and evidence-informed best practices.
• Maintain quality mental health care services through participation in quality assurance mechanisms and trainings.
• Work collaboratively with division directors of child psychiatry across the Sinai health system and the residency training program.

Administrative Duties

• Serve as medical psychiatric lead for the child outpatient clinic and collaborate with the clinical director to ensure safe delivery of care.
• Ensure timely and compliant closure of charts by providers.
• Participate in quality assurance mechanisms and monitor the quality of mental health services provided.
• Maximize capacity and access by partnering with referring providers across the Mount Sinai Health System.
• Participate in interdisciplinary efforts to foster a cohesive culture across all levels of staff and providers, improving communication and accountability.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by department leadership.

Compliance

• Ensure adherence to the NYS Office of Mental Health Standards of Care and Article 31 regulations in all aspects of clinical service delivery, reporting, incident review, and high-risk case management.
• Participate in high-risk meetings and investigations by the Incident Review Committee.
• Collaborate with leadership and staff to evaluate and disseminate practice-based processes as needed.

Requirements

• Board certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
• Licensed as a Psychiatrist by the State of New York.
• Completed fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Pay

Compensation range from $255,000 to $295,000 (not including bonuses, incentive compensation, or benefits). Actual salaries depend on experience, specialties, historical productivity, historical collections, and hospital/community need.
