Responsibilities
- Works together with the Program Director to ensure the delivery of quality academic programs through allocation of the Department's faculty and financial resources.
- Affords assistance to the Department Chair and Program Director in acting as a liaison to the Basic Science Faculty ensuring that scientific lectures meet the needs of anesthesiology students.
- Collaborates with the Dean, Executive Associate Dean, and Department leadership team to set goals and objectives, including research and service activities.
- Ensures a continuous review of the Program's curriculum, particularly the clinically-related components.
- Assists in curriculum development and outcome evaluation activities for both clinical and classroom courses offered in the curriculum.
- Provides a leadership role for the Anesthesiology Program in eliciting the understanding and support of practicing anesthesiologists in the local and extended communities.
- Advises and counsels students, faculty, and staff in matters pertaining to the Program.
- Participates in and/or chairs committees for the College, Department, and/or profession as assigned or elected.
- Captures interdepartmental or interdivisional activities where applicable.
- Teaches in the classroom, laboratory, or clinic setting as assigned.
- Serves as a mentor for inexperienced faculty members, guiding them in lecture presentations, in originating research projects, and in writing medical articles.
Requirements
- Appointment to the rank of professor requires a record of distinguished scholarship and outstanding teaching ability, evidenced by recognized professional productivity in the field(s) of specialization.
- Appointment to the rank of associate professor normally requires a record of substantial success in teaching, scholarship, and service.
- Appointment to the rank of assistant professor requires completion of professional training, which in most disciplines will be a terminal degree (usually the earned doctorate), and the clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, employees, regulatory agencies, or members of the professional community.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management and public groups in the English language.
- Ability to apply basic financial and accounting concepts to interpret financial statements, balance statements, and managerial accounting reports.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Maintains a personal professional development plan, which may include research and/or other creative activities, to assure growth and currency within an academic or administrative field.
Required Certifications/Licenses
- Current medical certification and eligibility for licensure in the State of Nevada.
Education
- Doctoral Degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
Experience
- Three (3) years of related experience and/or training.
