Responsibilities
- Teaches graduate Anesthesiology course(s) in the classroom as assigned.
- Selects teaching and evaluation strategies appropriate to the students and setting.
- Presents ideas clearly.
- Creates a climate that is conducive to learning.
- Provides and maintains a reliable schedule of office hours for student advising, tutoring, remediation, and consultation.
- Participates in department, college-wide, and university-wide committees and meetings.
- Engages in curriculum development related to current and new courses.
- Maintains a personal professional development plan, which may include research or other creative activities, to assure growth and currency within the academic field.
- Displays behavior consistent with professional ethics.
- Manages subordinates in the classroom or laboratory.
- Carrries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University's policies and applicable laws.
- Mentors and/or orients new faculty as assigned.
- Participates in state and/or local community service that is a recognized form of career development.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
- Appointment to the rank of professor requires a record of distinguished scholarship and outstanding teaching ability, evidenced by recognized professional productivity in the field(s) of specialization.
- Appointment to the rank of associate professor normally requires a record of substantial success in teaching, scholarship, and service.
- Appointment to the rank of assistant professor requires completion of professional training, which in most disciplines will be a terminal degree (usually the earned doctorate), and the clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Qualifications
- Adaptability and willingness to teach courses.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
- Ability to effectively present information to students, public groups, or professional organizations in the English language.
- Ability to work with appropriate mathematical concepts specific to the particular discipline.
- Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Terminal degree in related area of specialization.
