About the role

We assist self-pay patients across the Ochsner Health System with Medicaid enrollment applications. Responsibilities include interviewing patients, explaining the program, completing and submitting applications, updating systems, and following up on cases.

Responsibilities

  • Interview and screen self-pay patients to identify eligibility for state/governmental financial programs
  • Assign proper Federal Poverty Level (FPL) status, billing indicators, and update insurance coverage in EPIC
  • Follow up on self-pay patients and/or pending applications
  • Enroll patients in applicable programs following government financial program guidelines
  • Provide top quality customer service experience by providing appropriate/applicable levels of competency and professionalism with each patient contact
  • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respecting privacy, method of introduction, adapting explanations, requesting permissions, and communicating effectively
  • Other related duties as required

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • One year of customer service, healthcare, or office experience
  • Previous Medicaid experience preferred

  • Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and information retrieval
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and various software packages specific to role
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform effectively under varying workloads without compromising deadlines
  • Works with minimal supervision and makes independent decisions
  • Ability to resolve problems and follow through on tasks
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Skills
