Medical Coding Specialist Instructor- Part-Time

This position prepares students for employment as Medical Coders and to successfully pass the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam offered by the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC). In collaboration with staff members, the instructor will perform instructional and reporting requirements as directed by the Director. This is a part-time position, and off-campus work within Union County may be required.

Characteristics, Duties, And Responsibilities

• Provide Medical Coding instruction including Anatomy and Physiology and Medical Terminology.
• Communicate class content clearly to ensure learning, skill development, and student motivation.
• Prepare students for employment and for the CPC certification exam.
• Teach coding principles using the CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II code books.

Education Requirements

• Minimum: High School Diploma.
• Preferred: Associate Degree in a healthcare-related field.
• Required Certifications: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), AAPC Approved Instructor Certificate.
• Experience: Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in the medical field.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Duties are generally performed in a typical office or classroom environment.
• Occasional need to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
• Minimal exposure to physical risk.
• Some travel required.
