About the Role
The Medical Aide assists students by providing special health care in compliance with medical orders, collaborating with staff and families to advance special needs students' educational progress, and maintaining appropriate medical records.
Responsibilities
- Medical Support
- Provide scheduled hydration, medication administration, and tube feedings for students in accordance with physician orders, district policies, and state regulations.
- Monitor students during and after medical procedures and report concerns to the District Nurse and school staff.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all medications and medical procedures administered.
- Ensure medical supplies and equipment are clean, organized, and properly maintained.
- Follow infection control, safety, and confidentiality procedures.
- Communicate effectively with school staff, parents/guardians, and healthcare providers.
- Classroom Support
- Assist students in the Instructional Life Skills (ILS) classroom when not performing scheduled medical duties.
- Provide one-on-one or small-group assistance with academic, functional, communication, and social-emotional skills.
- Assist students with daily living skills, mobility, and personal care as needed.
- Help maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
- General Responsibilities
- Travel between Westbrook Primary School and Glen Grove Intermediate School, and other district schools if needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and health information.
- Participate in required professional development and training.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the District Nurse or school administration.
Requirements
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with current nursing license or certification as required by state regulations and district requirements.
- Experience working with children, preferably in a school or pediatric setting.
- Experience with medication administration and enteral (tube) feeding procedures preferred.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school staff.
- Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to travel between district buildings during the workday.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred or required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, transfer, or assist students as needed.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the school day.
- Ability to perform medical procedures requiring fine motor skills and attention to detail.
Schedule
Full-time or part-time position during the school year (August 2026–June 2027). Schedule can be flexible.
Pay
Salary range: $26.25 – $31.50 per hour.
