The program supports billing processes involving third-party liability, workers compensation, and motor vehicle accident claims.
About the role
This position is responsible for reviewing, verifying, and processing medical bills and invoices to ensure accuracy and compliance. It plays a critical role in managing account issues, correcting billing information, and maintaining communication with third parties. The role supports the organization’s financial accuracy and regulatory adherence, contributing to effective healthcare billing operations.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and resolve account issues, including resubmitting and updating claim information.
- Locate and correct missing or incorrect billing information.
- Investigate and document billing discrepancies and unusual charges.
- Handle high priority third-party liability, motor vehicle accident, and workers compensation cases.
- Research and validate related paid claims for subrogation and cost avoidance.
- Respond to inquiries regarding verification, billing, and collections.
- Evaluate case status and maintain communication with third parties.
- Ensure accurate entry of patient service charges into the billing system.
- Perform duties in compliance with HIPAA and other company policies.
Requirements
- Completion of an AAPC or AHIMA-approved Coding Certificate Program.
- Three to five years of medical billing and/or coding experience.
- Experience with workers compensation and third-party liability billing and collections.
- Certification such as CPC, COC, CIC, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P.
- Knowledge of coding conventions established by AHIMA, AMA, AHA, and CMS.
- Understanding of JCAHO, coding compliance, HIPAA, and HITECH standards.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ADP, Oracle, and related systems.
