About the role

Cares for and treats patients as directed by a physician, supporting outpatient, children’s, ACT, and residential programs.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain diagnostic tests ordered by clinic psychiatrists to contribute to patient assessments.
  • Perform and document vital signs (weight, height, waist measurements, children’s growth charts) before the patient sees the psychiatrist.
  • Educate individuals on medication side effects.
  • Perform and record AIMS testing as required.
  • Participate in agency assessments and treatment planning (nursing, BPS, IPOS, Meds Only, etc.).
  • Observe individual’s medication box setup as ordered by the physician.
  • Dispense professional samples as directed by agency psychiatrist or RN.
  • Complete agency training for injectable medication administration and administer injections once trained.
  • Facilitate children’s clinic as assigned.
  • Order all injectable medications and coordinate with approved vendors.
  • Assist with obtaining prior authorizations for medications.
  • Document and report significant symptoms, reactions, or incidents to physicians, psychiatrists, RNs, or caretakers.
  • Complete releases of information.
  • Communicate with psychiatrists, homes, caretakers, physicians, guardians, etc., to ensure adequate healthcare for individuals.
  • Manage individuals assigned as applicable.
  • Facilitate communication between physicians and clinical staff.
  • Link individuals with community healthcare professionals as directed by the agency psychiatrist and treatment team.
  • Prepare for clinic and document in the electronic medical record.
  • Understand and follow agency systems, procedures, forms, and timelines required by certifying agencies (DCH, CARF, PIHP, Medicaid, OBRA Assessments, etc.).
  • Practice Standard Precautions.
  • Participate in mandatory meetings.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and accidents involving individuals served at agency sites.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant education program and certification/registration as a Medical Assistant, or graduation from a related accredited/licensed program (e.g., LPN, RN).
  • Two years of experience as a Medical Assistant preferred, along with experience in administering injections and mental health.
  • For those working with children: 24 hours of Children’s training per calendar year.
  • Valid driver’s license; chauffeur’s license if transporting individuals.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and the public.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills (calculating percentages, proportions, basic algebra, geometry).
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and solve problems involving concrete variables.
  • Knowledge of word processing software.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to stand, use hands to handle objects/tools, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Moderate noise level.

  • Expected to support the agency’s mission and may include lived experience with behavioral health issues.

Benefits

Eligibility for benefits begins the first of the month following hire date for employees working over 30 hours per week. Paid time off accruals are based on hours worked.

Pay

$18.91/hr – $23.82/hr (annualized: $39,342.10 – $49,549.19).

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday; additional hours as needed by the department.
