Medical Assistant, Transplant/Liver - Full-Time, Days

About the Role

Join the Transplant/Liver team at UChicago Medicine’s Hyde Park clinic as a Medical Assistant. This is a 100% onsite position based in the greater Chicagoland area. You will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), or Physician, assisting with clinical and administrative tasks to enhance patient care.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to and practice UChicago Medicine’s Pride Values and Patient-Centered Care principles.
• Perform direct patient care duties as assigned by an RN or physician, within the scope of Nursing policies and procedures.
• Implement and document patient and family education as delegated by the RN or physician.
• Obtain and record vital signs.
• Perform tests such as pregnancy tests, urinalysis, and hemocults specific to the patient population.
• Document all aspects of patient care according to hospital policies and procedures.
• Perform phlebotomy services and assist with specimen collection.
• Label and log specimens in compliance with hospital standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Completed High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited body.
• Current certificate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training.
• Phlebotomy experience.
• Experience working in a community health setting.
• Completion of a certified/registered program for Medical Assistants recognized by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Graduate of a certified program for Medical Assistants (CMA credential).

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong verbal communication skills, ability to prioritize and organize work.
• Experience maintaining an organized, alphabetized filing system.
• Working knowledge of PC, Excel, Microsoft Word, OASIS, and EPIC.
• Computerized appointment scheduling experience.
• Ability to handle stress in a fast-paced environment.
• Skill in handling sensitive public contacts with discretion, tact, and courtesy when dealing with patients, coworkers, and physicians.
• Physical ability to perform stocking, lifting, and transporting supplies and instruments.

Schedule

• Full-time (1.0 FTE), 40 hours per week.
• Day shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday.
• No on-call shifts.
• 100% onsite at the Hyde Park campus.
