About the Role
Join the Transplant/Liver team at UChicago Medicine’s Hyde Park clinic as a Medical Assistant. This is a 100% onsite position based in the greater Chicagoland area. You will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), or Physician, assisting with clinical and administrative tasks to enhance patient care.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to and practice UChicago Medicine’s Pride Values and Patient-Centered Care principles.
- Perform direct patient care duties as assigned by an RN or physician, within the scope of Nursing policies and procedures.
- Implement and document patient and family education as delegated by the RN or physician.
- Obtain and record vital signs.
- Perform tests such as pregnancy tests, urinalysis, and hemocults specific to the patient population.
- Document all aspects of patient care according to hospital policies and procedures.
- Perform phlebotomy services and assist with specimen collection.
- Label and log specimens in compliance with hospital standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completed High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited body.
- Current certificate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training.
- Phlebotomy experience.
- Experience working in a community health setting.
- Completion of a certified/registered program for Medical Assistants recognized by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Graduate of a certified program for Medical Assistants (CMA credential).
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong verbal communication skills, ability to prioritize and organize work.
- Experience maintaining an organized, alphabetized filing system.
- Working knowledge of PC, Excel, Microsoft Word, OASIS, and EPIC.
- Computerized appointment scheduling experience.
- Ability to handle stress in a fast-paced environment.
- Skill in handling sensitive public contacts with discretion, tact, and courtesy when dealing with patients, coworkers, and physicians.
- Physical ability to perform stocking, lifting, and transporting supplies and instruments.
Schedule
- Full-time (1.0 FTE), 40 hours per week.
- Day shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday.
- No on-call shifts.
- 100% onsite at the Hyde Park campus.
