Responsibilities
- Using computer applications
- answering telephones
- welcoming patients
- updating and filing patient medical records
- coding and filling out insurance forms
- scheduling appointments
- arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services
- handling correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping
- Obtain authorization for ancillary and/or surgical procedures
- Absorb and prepare patients for examination
- Absorb and assist the physician during exams and certain procedures
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens
- Perform basic laboratory tests
- Draw blood
- Take electrocardiograms
- Bring patients into the exam room and obtain basic medical information
- Review medical history, family history, surgical history, and current medications with each patient
- Perform blood draws, ECGs, and other tests as needed
- Responsible for cleaning exam rooms and maintaining them with adequate supplies
- May perform other advanced clinical duties under direction and supervision of a nurse or a physician, as needed based on assigned unit
Requirements
- High school diploma is required
- Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants or credentialing as a Registered Medical Assistant by the American Society of Medical Technologies preferred
- Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications
- Unit Specific Credential: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment
Qualifications
- Generally, requires 0 to 3 years of related experience
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure
- Ability to understand and follow instructions
- Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment
