Medical Assistant Technician, Full Time, Days, 8:00am-4:30pm

Responsibilities

  • Using computer applications
  • answering telephones
  • welcoming patients
  • updating and filing patient medical records
  • coding and filling out insurance forms
  • scheduling appointments
  • arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services
  • handling correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping
  • Obtain authorization for ancillary and/or surgical procedures
  • Absorb and prepare patients for examination
  • Absorb and assist the physician during exams and certain procedures
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens
  • Perform basic laboratory tests
  • Draw blood
  • Take electrocardiograms
  • Bring patients into the exam room and obtain basic medical information
  • Review medical history, family history, surgical history, and current medications with each patient
  • Perform blood draws, ECGs, and other tests as needed
  • Clean and maintain exam rooms with adequate supplies
  • Perform other advanced clinical duties under direction and supervision of a nurse or a physician, as needed based on assigned unit

Requirements

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment.
  • Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.

Qualifications

  • Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants or credentialing as a Registered Medical Assistant by the American Society of Medical Technologies preferred.
  • American Heart Association and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers may be required at the unit level upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
  • Unit Specific Credential: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
