Medical Assistant - Stateline Medical Center (may be eligible for $1,000 sign on bonus)
About the Role
The Medical Assistant (MA) works with all members of the care team by performing a variety of clinical and administrative patient-related duties. The MA ensures smooth patient flow, provides comfortable and safe care, and assists in scheduling and completing patient appointments. They cater to a diverse population, ranging from infants to geriatrics, and work in a culturally sensitive manner.
Responsibilities
- Collect patient care data and report findings to licensed staff.
- Escort patients to exam rooms, take vital signs, and obtain patient history.
- Assist licensed staff with minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
- Educate patients and families on treatments and interventions.
- Schedule patients for testing procedures and obtain test results.
- Process prescription medication refills according to protocol.
- Administer medications within scope of practice and training.
- Clean and disinfect exam rooms and instruments after each use.
- Document all aspects of patient care in the electronic medical record system.
- Participate in team huddles and care team meetings.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- College-level coursework in medical clinic care delivery preferred.
- Medical Assistant certification recognized by The Medical Board of California or a nationally recognized agency, OR completion of a Medical Assistant program with clinical externship, OR one year of recent Medical Assistant experience.
- Ability to obtain certification within 18 months of hire.
- One to three years of recent Medical Assistant experience preferred.
- Float MA positions require at least two years of recent experience.
- Ambulatory care or physician office experience preferred.
- Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice experience preferred.
Skills
- Proficiency in clinical skills and office procedures.
- Computer and keyboard experience, including electronic medical records charting.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and teamwork skills.
- Bilingual abilities preferred.
- Working knowledge of quality improvement measures and Patient-Centered Medical Home.
Certifications/Licensure
- Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association, or ability to obtain prior to start date.
Physical Demands
The employee must be able to walk, stand, sit, and talk or hear frequently. Occasionally, they must use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, adequate near and distant vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions
The employee is regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases, infections, contagious diseases, hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids, and waste. They may be subject to flammable and explosive gases, varying and unpredictable situations, and pressure due to irregular hours, frequent interruptions, and stressful situations. Occasional travel to various health system locations may be required.
