About the role
The Medical Assistant provides quality patient care in a prompt and professional manner, assists in delivering patient education, and communicates patient information to and from the physician. This role involves direct, individualized, goal-directed patient care under physician supervision and may include additional assigned duties within the scope of the role.
Responsibilities
- Provide quality patient care in a professional manner.
- Assist in delivering patient education.
- Communicate patient information to and from the physician.
- Perform tasks such as operating equipment (e.g., glucometer, PT/INR machine, wheelchair, thermometers) and conducting tests (e.g., urinalysis, EKG).
- Assume additional duties as assigned within the scope of the role.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or equivalent required.
- Medical training through a certificate program or at least 2 years of experience as a medical assistant in a clinical setting (e.g., clinical lab, physician’s office, Emergency Medical Tech).
- Medical training background as an LPN, Lab, Radiology, Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or in a physician’s office.
- Active Medical Assistant certification/registration preferred.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
Skills
- Knowledge of medical equipment: glucometer, PT/INR machine, wheelchair, and thermometers.
- Knowledge of medical tests: urinalysis and EKG.
- Organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer skills and customer service.
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency by passing all written and clinical tests.
Work Conditions / Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing (30%), walking (40%), and occasional sitting (5%) of the workday.
- Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
- Frequent reaching, use of hands, and repetitive actions.
- Occasional lifting or carrying up to 15 pounds; pushing/pulling up to 15 pounds.
- Continuous need for clear speaking and hearing sensitivity in conversations (phone or in-person).
- Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range; vision 20/40 or better (with or without correction).
- Ability to distinguish color and normal hearing sensitivity.
- Inside work protected from weather but not necessarily from temperature changes.
- Minimal noise levels; frequent computer work.
- Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock, infectious disease, hazardous chemicals, and radiation.
