Job Description
Aid physicians with medical procedures in the office setting. Responsibilities include phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting, and maintenance. Key areas of responsibility include:
- Performing quality control procedures before patient testing.
- Carrying out laboratory blood work and blood draws.
- Handling and processing specimens according to laboratory procedures.
- Maintaining accurate and precise technical laboratory procedures.
- Preparing blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation.
- Sending lab results to appropriate facilities as per patient's insurance plan.
- Updating logs, records, and checklists according to regulatory agencies.
- Following AON patient identification policy during each encounter.
- Obtaining vital signs, height, weight, pain levels, and conducting PHQ9 depression screenings.
- Documenting all testing and treatment in the medical record chart.
- Preparing encounter forms for billing and initialing steps in the EMR system.
- Notifying physicians of critical blood counts and preparing scans and CDs for review.
- Maintaining inventory and placing orders as needed.
- Initiating troubleshooting procedures for instrument malfunctions and contacting service companies.
- Performing EKG tests when applicable.
- Ensuring compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies.
- Completing required CEUs annually to maintain C.O.L.A. requirements.
- Maintaining cleanliness and adhering to safety guidelines.
- Assisting in training new employees.
- Working at various AON locations as needed.
- Occasionally working overtime and weekends.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- BLS certification required.
- Valid driver's license for travel to other clinic locations.
- One year of experience as a medical assistant in a clinic or physician's office, including venipuncture skills.
