About the role

Under the direction of a licensed professional, the Medical Assistant performs and oversees functions within scope of practice related to clinical activities, including maintaining patient flow, performing technical procedures, and clinically-oriented activities. The Medical Assistant assists management in achieving office efficiencies in accordance with stated policies and procedures to ensure efficient operations, supporting physicians, clinic staff, and management while embodying the "Service First" philosophy to promote customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates efficient and effective patient flow, including preparing the patient for visits/admissions and providing specific services and education as determined by providers.
  • Performs necessary administrative duties to ensure all information is current and updated, including maintenance and monitoring of the electronic health record.
  • Maintains and cleans environment, work area, and equipment; communicates equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
  • Greets and communicates with patients and families in a manner consistent with care and respect.
  • Collaborates and anticipates the needs of the healthcare team to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Collects, monitors, and reports patient data/needs to licensed team members as directed; follows documentation standards.
  • Demonstrates high standards of moral and ethical behavior; commits to continuous improvement of patient experience, safety, and quality of care.
  • Advocates for privacy, confidentiality, and security of patient, staff, and organizational data; adheres to published values, standards, and policies.
  • Engages in continuous study of the professional field, including best practices, to maintain competence and skills; completes required training and education.
  • Assists providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments by preparing patients and ensuring appropriate supplies/equipment are available.
  • Prepares, administers, and documents medications within scope of practice as directed by the provider.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an accredited, hands-on competency-based Medical Assistant training program (online-only programs do not qualify).
  • One of the following certifications required within 120 days:
    • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – AAMA
    • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – NHA
    • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) – NCCT
    • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – NAHP
    • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – AMT
  • One of the following certifications required within 90 days:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) – ARC
  • Preferred: 1 year of relevant experience in a physician practice or healthcare setting.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Shift: Day shift, Monday to Friday.
  • Hours of Work: 7:35 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:35 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Primary Location: 520 Main St, Dowagiac – Primary Care Dowagiac - Watervliet Professional Services.
