Medical Assistant (Part Time)
Overview
We're hiring a Medical Assistant to join our outpatient dermatology clinic in Annapolis, MD. Founded 50+ years ago with a mission to provide the highest quality and full spectrum of medical, surgical, and esthetic skin care services, Anne Arundel Dermatology has assembled the finest group of dermatologists in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern states.
Responsibilities
- Room patients and document intake.
- Obtain and record vital signs.
- Organize patient flow.
- Setup procedure tray, instruments, and equipment according to instructions.
- Absorb and prepare for dermatology procedures.
- Prepare Path/lab specimens, route to correct lab directed by patient insurance plan.
- Respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed.
- Review and address clinical task lists and nurse line messages.
- Calibrate, clean, sterilize and inventory all equipment & instruments according to schedule.
- Keep appropriate records of maintenance.
- Maintain medication supplies, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records.
- Maintain infection control and make sure supply rooms and cabinets are stocked.
- Order, sort, restock and inventory of all supplies.
- Accurately document patient information and scribe provider notes in the EMR.
- Absorb and administer local anesthetic.
- Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner.
Qualifications
- Able to triage patient concerns.
- Be familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA, infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
- Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
- Experience administering injections.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes.
- Knowledge of office financial policies.
- Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization.
- Able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluent in English.
- Able to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Able to work in an effective, cooperative, and courteous manner with staff, patients, and visitors.
- Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed.
- Able to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.
- Able to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.
- Able to spell, sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.
- Licensure/Certifications/Education: High School Graduate or GED required. Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program or completion of a bachelor’s degree program in the pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred. CPR certified preferred. 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or other clinical patient care experience preferred. Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.
- Use of hands and fingers.
- Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.
- Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc.
- Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
- Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
Pay and Schedule
Pay range: $18-22/hr, depending upon experience. This is a part time position, working 2-3 days per week, weekdays only as we are not open on weekends.
