About the role
The Medical Assistant at Hackensack Meridian Health is responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, conducting ophthalmology tests and exams, communicating with patients, handling front office tasks, and performing various medical procedures under supervision.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining vital signs and recording patient history and chief complaints.
- Providing patient education regarding office policies, medications, disease management, home treatments, and special diets.
- Aiding physicians during exams and minor surgeries, preparing patients for examinations, and performing routine screening tests.
- Changing dressings, applying bandages, removing sutures, and performing first aid procedures.
- Using CPR skills when necessary.
- Maintaining supplies, equipment, and sterilizing instruments.
- Documenting patient interactions accurately and ethically.
- Triage patient phone calls, review prescriptions, and perform other supportive duties as directed by the physician.
- Adhering to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- Lifting, pushing, and pulling a minimum of 5 lbs. and standing for 1 hour a day.
Requirements
- Bilingual English/Spanish highly desired.
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), or equivalent programs.
- Minimum 2-3 years experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
- AHA Basic Health Care Life Support certification.
- HCP Certification.
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician preferred.

Pay
The starting rate of pay is $23.46 per hour. The actual compensation may vary based on internal equity, labor market data, experience, education, and other factors.
Schedule
4 hours per day, Monday through Friday.
