About the role

We are looking for an OB/GYN Medical Assistant who wants to join our team at Branch Health Clinic Dam Neck in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Responsibilities

  • Check patients in and perform initial screenings: vital signs, weight, fetal heart tones via Doppler, fundal height measurements, and record/report retrieval.
  • Screens patients using standard questionnaires per clinic protocol.
  • Prepare the electronic health record and any forms needed before each visit; have backup paperwork ready in case of an EHR outage.
  • Review upcoming provider schedules to flag gaps and keep the team workflow on track.
  • Provide patient instructions and health promotion materials per clinic protocol.
  • Participate in daily team huddles and communicate clearly with providers, patients, families, and other departments.
  • Use MHS Genesis, Care Point, and Secure Messaging to enter patient data, support population health metrics, and follow up with patients.
  • Schedule appointments, prepare patient correspondence, and follow infection control and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • A Medical Assistant who enjoys OB/GYN and is confident with fetal heart tone Doppler checks and fundal height measurements.
  • Comfortable in an electronic health record and quick to pick up new clinic systems.
  • A warm, clear communicator who puts patients at ease — especially during prenatal and women’s health visits.
  • Motivated by the chance to serve U.S. Navy service members and their families.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program (CAAHEP, ABHES, or a U.S. Armed Forces medical services training program).
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 3 years; OB/GYN experience preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (in-person).
  • Two letters of recommendation (one must be from a physician or supervisor who has personally observed your clinical work).
  • U.S. citizenship (or eligibility to work on a federal military installation).
  • Ability to pass a background check and obtain a base access ID.
  • Up-to-date immunizations (Varicella, MMR, Tdap, Hepatitis B, annual flu) and TB screening.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, general data entry).
  • Comfortable wearing required PPE (gloves, mask, eye protection, fitted respirator).
