Wentworth Health Partners Coastal Neurology Services is seeking a Medical Assistant to join their Neurology team.
About the Role
As a Medical Assistant, you will support healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. You will work Monday through Friday from 8:30am-5pm, supporting the Neurology team at Wentworth Health Partners Coastal Neurology Services.
Responsibilities
- Takes vital signs, documents patient information, schedules appointments, and manages patient flow.
- Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities.
- Interviews patients to obtain medical information, measures vital signs, weight, and height, and records information in the patient's medical record.
- Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients.
- Collaborates with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.
- Performs general office duties such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms.
- Collects blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, logs them, and prepares them for testing.
- Maintains inventory of immunizations and checks expiration dates.
- Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
- Improves appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Direct MA experience or medical field work 0-1 year preferred.
- Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - preferred.
- Certified Medical Assistant - preferred.
