This position offers Medical Assistants the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skill set in a Multi-Specialty Clinic environment. Under the direction of licensed medical and nursing personnel, the Medical Assistant plays a central role in delivering healthcare, collaborating with professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care and desired outcomes. Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the patient’s care team—including primary care, specialists, home care, and hospital teams—to optimize clinical outcomes.
  • Works as a team member, interacting with staff, patients, and providers to communicate and coordinate patient care and workflow effectively.
  • Improves the patient experience by completing pre-visit planning, reviewing notes from previous visits, and ensuring results (e.g., lab results, diagnostic tests, pathology reports) are documented.
  • Identifies additional information such as hospital discharge notes or emergency notes to maximize the patient and provider face-to-face visit.
  • Practices AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) during each patient interaction.
  • Rooms patients following standardized workflow, including verifying patient information, documenting chief complaint, vital signs, BMI, pulse oximetry, medication list, allergies, smoking history, and other required details.
  • Performs competency-validated clinical duties such as EKG, spirometry, point-of-care testing, specimen collection, staple/suture removal, wound care, toenail cutting, and equipment cleaning/reprocessing.
  • Administers medications and immunizations, prepares exam/procedure rooms, assists providers with exams or procedures, and performs quality control checks on equipment per manufacturer guidelines.
  • Dismisses patients at the end of visits, completing orders, delivering patient education, scheduling follow-ups, and reviewing the patient plan.
  • Manages in-basket tasks, addresses MyChart messages, assists with pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, and scheduling for clinic, hospital, or ancillary treatments.
  • Respects patient confidentiality and treats patients with courtesy and respect.
  • Collaborates and communicates professionally with all care team members regarding processes and clinical issues.
  • Develops and maintains positive internal relationships with co-workers, managers, clinical support staff, providers, and business office staff.
  • Participates in daily patient care huddles and continuous quality improvement projects to enhance service quality.
  • Attends staff meetings and educational offerings, both in-person and via teleconference/online, as required.
  • Supports organizational initiatives to promote a strong, positive workplace culture.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant Diploma and/or National Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program or equivalent military healthcare experience.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant externship.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification obtained through an approved American Heart Association or Red Cross provider (lapsing/expiration will result in suspension of work).

Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Assistant duties and quality patient care delivery.
  • High level of skill in building relationships and providing excellent customer service.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to use computers for data entry and information retrieval.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of Medical Assistant experience, preferably in an ambulatory clinic setting with specialty services.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
