About the role

Atrius Health, part of the Optum family of businesses, is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team. We are an innovative health care leader and multi-specialty group practice, delivering effective, connected care for adult and pediatric patients across 28 practice locations in eastern Massachusetts.

Responsibilities

• Provides efficient flow of patients to optimize patient appointment availability
• Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms according to policy and procedures
• Prepares patient for examination; measures vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse rate, weight, and height
• Aids clinicians with routine clinical procedures and/or additional tests specific to the department
• Advises patients of preparation or pre-visit testing required for exams specific to the department
• Ensures all pre-visit work required for exam is completed and that lab and other test results are available in the electronic medical record (EMR)
• Updates patient data in the EMR with medical information, including recent testing and consultations, ensuring accuracy and up-to-date information
• Informs patients of visit status, delays, and other relevant information
• Reconciles medications and sets up pending refills
• Orders and performs point of care testing on patients; classified as waived testing (e.g., strep, urine, hcg, and glucose testing)

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalency certificate
• Medical Assistant Certification
• Associate degree in medical assisting or graduate of medical assistant certification program
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
• Experience typically acquired through 1+ years of experience in a clinical or customer service setting
• Knowledge of reagent stability and storage
• Understanding of the testing procedure and factors influencing test results
• Computer experience required with the ability to use word processing and spreadsheet programs
• Electronic medical record (EMR) experience and/or aptitude to master the EMR based on other technology experience

Pay

The hourly pay for this role will range from $16.00 to $25.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
