Medical Assistant (MA)

About the role

This position assists in the examination and treatment of patients by performing various tasks under the oversight of professional clinical staff.

Responsibilities

• Greets and escorts patients and guests to examination rooms.
• Determines and documents reasons for visits; assesses patient information as needed.
• Enters patient information into the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Obtains and documents vital signs, calculates BMI, and administers medications.
• Performs diagnostic tests and basic Gaps in Care.
• Communicates with patients about test results and provider instructions.
• Provides patient and caregiver education.
• Takes and relays messages.
• Serves as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers.
• Supports other offices and attends meetings as requested.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of accredited/approved MA program and/or EMT/Paramedic program.
• Credential as a Medical Assistant through one of the recognized certifying agencies.
• Valid CPR certification.
• Ability to perform all NEO Basic Competencies.
• Competency in obtaining accurate patient vital statistics and health history.
• Proficiency in operating a desktop and Windows-based computer system.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Team-oriented and able to work with diverse populations.
• Good organizational and time management skills.
• Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities.
• Confidentiality and compliance with patient privacy laws.

Qualifications

• 0-1 year previous clinical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
• If credentialed, maintains current MA Re-Certification CEUs.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to dosages.
• Knowledge of compliance aspects of clinical care and patient privacy.
