About the role
This position assists in the examination and treatment of patients by performing various tasks under the oversight of professional clinical staff.
Responsibilities
- Greets and escorts patients and guests to examination rooms.
- Determines and documents reasons for visits; assesses patient information as needed.
- Enters patient information into the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Obtains and documents vital signs, calculates BMI, and administers medications.
- Performs diagnostic tests and basic Gaps in Care.
- Communicates with patients about test results and provider instructions.
- Provides patient and caregiver education.
- Takes and relays messages.
- Serves as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers.
- Supports other offices and attends meetings as requested.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of accredited/approved MA program and/or EMT/Paramedic program.
- Credential as a Medical Assistant through one of the recognized certifying agencies.
- Valid CPR certification.
- Ability to perform all NEO Basic Competencies.
- Competency in obtaining accurate patient vital statistics and health history.
- Proficiency in operating a desktop and Windows-based computer system.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Team-oriented and able to work with diverse populations.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities.
- Confidentiality and compliance with patient privacy laws.
Qualifications
- 0-1 year previous clinical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- If credentialed, maintains current MA Re-Certification CEUs.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to dosages.
- Knowledge of compliance aspects of clinical care and patient privacy.
