About the Role

Frederick Health is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant for our Liberty Primary Care office. This position supports the mission of Frederick Health and complies with the Standards of Behavior, performing clinical and some administrative duties under the direction of medical group providers.

Responsibilities

  • Escorts patients to examination rooms in a timely manner to maintain patient flow.
  • Interviews patients to obtain medical information, records histories, medications, and allergies in the medical record.
  • Obtains and records vital signs in the EHR and notifies providers of any concerns.
  • Records medications and laboratory results in the EHR and updates information with each visit.
  • Educates patients and families on treatment procedures, medications, and physician instructions.
  • Assists physicians during examinations and medical procedures, including preparing for procedures, maintaining sterile fields, and performing minor medical tasks such as dressing changes, phlebotomy, injections, staple/suture/drain removal.
  • Collects and prepares laboratory specimens for testing.
  • Documents in the EHR in a complete, clear, accurate, and legible manner.
  • Processes prescription refills, provides prescription information to pharmacies, and records information in the EHR using eRX.
  • Directs calls appropriately, takes accurate messages, and responds using medical knowledge of policies and procedures.
  • Ensures prompt responses to phone messages and communicates urgent concerns in the EHR.
  • Reviews medical tests and results for abnormalities, notifies providers when indicated, and files results in the EHR.
  • Prepares and maintains treatment rooms, ensuring they are neat, clean, and stocked with supplies.
  • Practices proper disposal of contaminated instruments and materials.
  • Maintains and stocks supplies, ensuring all items are within expiration dates.
  • Ensures medical equipment is in proper working order and cleans/sterilizes equipment as needed.
  • Assists with the orientation of new staff to practice policies and procedures.
  • Understands and supports quality/service measures and goals related to staff and provider performance.
  • Assists in translating population health and quality program requirements into operational workflows.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and customer service initiatives.
  • Complies with organizational quality control and infection control standards.
  • Supports leadership with day-to-day operations.

Requirements

  • Certified/Licensed Medical Assistant preferred; CNA, EMT, or LPN accepted. Associate degree or higher in healthcare preferred.
  • One to two years of experience in a medical practice or clinical setting.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Computer skills, preferably including knowledge of EMR and MS Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-based environment.

Patient Care

Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care for patients across all age groups:

  • Neonate (0 through 30 days)
  • Infant (31 through 12 months)
  • Child (13 months through 12 years)
  • Adolescent (13 through 17 years)
  • Adult (18 through 65 years)
  • Geriatric (66+ years)

Must demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles over the life span and the ability to assess data reflective of a patient’s status. Must interpret information to identify each patient’s age-specific needs and provide appropriate care.

Physical Demands

  • Medium Work: Lifting up to 50 pounds infrequently and/or carrying up to 25 pounds while walking.
  • Pushing or pulling up to 75 pounds infrequently or up to 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour).
  • Ergonomic Risk Factors:
    • Repetition: Repeating motions that may stress muscles and tendons.
    • Forceful Exertion: Physical effort required for tasks such as moving patients or equipment.
    • Awkward Posture: Repeated or prolonged reaching, twisting, bending, kneeling, squatting, or working overhead.
  • Moderate walking and standing.

Working Conditions

Exposure Risk Category A – Will have exposure to blood or body fluids.

Pay

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. The hourly range for this position is $20.00 - $27.77. Non-exempt positions may include shift differential and/or overtime pay, if applicable.

Schedule

Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
