General Job Summary

The Medical Assistant Intern will support the department as assigned, while gaining experience and educational opportunities. This is a full-time position supporting the GI team at SouthPark, Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm.

Duties

  • Escort patients to exam rooms/procedure room
  • Interview patients
  • Measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature
  • Collect patient history
  • Perform screenings per provider guidelines
  • Prepare for other physical examinations
  • Document all information in patient’s chart
  • Absorb and assemble patients’ health information, including symptoms, medical history, exam results, X-ray reports, lab tests, diagnoses, and treatment plans
  • Ensure all related reports, labs, and information are available in patients’ medical records before their appointment
  • Review forms to ensure they are completed, properly identified, and signed, and that all necessary information is in the EHR
  • Communicate as needed with physicians and other healthcare professionals to clarify diagnoses or obtain additional information
  • Obtain and send patient medical records to support seamless care delivery
  • Gain hands-on experience and exposure to various medical settings, including but not limited to laboratory, primary care services, registration, document management, care coordination, and more
  • Administer injections after completing Tryon training certification
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Must be enrolled in or have a degree from an accredited university/college undergraduate or graduate program, with a focus on medicine
  • Must be on track to return to medical school or complete Physician Assistant program
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Will be required to complete online and in-person vaccination administration training
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Self-directed and able to work without supervision
  • Completion of Hepatitis B Vaccine and Flu Vaccine Form (decline through form or provide record from previous employer)
  • Completion of TB test
  • Maintain American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS Certification

Physical Requirements

  • Work consistently requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling
  • Must be able to lift and support weight of 35 pounds
  • Able to concentrate on details
  • Use of computer for long periods of time
