Responsibilities

  • Gathers and documents brief history and chief complaint in the medical record.
  • Follows established guidelines to obtain necessary testing based on the chief complaint prior to the exam.
  • Prepares patient for examination by the health care provider.
  • Performs routine office testing, including but not limited to; phlebotomy, sweat and hydration tests, urinalysis, vision testing, hearing screening, pulmonary function testing, temperature, pulse and blood pressure.
  • Aids provider with procedures and minor surgical procedures.
  • Obtains necessary patient specimens for diagnostic testing.
  • Administers and documents injections and other medications given.
  • Aids provider with clarification of patient instruction such as, diagnostic test preparation, and medication administration.
  • Exhibits compassion and empathy for all patients and families at all times.
  • Sterilizes all reusable instruments and equipment as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program from an accredited institution.
  • Medical Assistant certification (such as NAHP, NCCT, AAMA, NHA, AMT, etc.) is preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of supervised work experience in a medical assisting field or five or more years of supervised work experience in a medical setting.
  • Demonstrated skill in venipuncture.
  • Ability to perform all medical assisting responsibilities under state and faculty guidelines.
  • CPR certification required.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited training program (school) or 5 or more years of supervised work experience in a medical setting.

Referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
