Medical Assistant II - Pediatrics Multispecialty (TMC)

About the Role

The Medical Assistant in our Multispecialty Clinic (TMC) functions as a member of the clinical team, performing a supportive role in delivering patient care that is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties in a manner that promotes quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction.
• Participates in planning and preparing for patient visits, ensuring appropriate schedules, test results, and clinic-specific requirements are available.
• Rooms patients, documenting chief complaint, reason for visit, vital signs, medication list, allergies, smoking history, and other required information.
• Keeps patients informed of delays and progress during clinical appointments.
• Performs competency-validated procedures such as hearing and vision testing, EKG, spirometry, point-of-care testing, specimen collection, and equipment cleaning/reprocessing.
• Prepares and stocks exam rooms and clinic supplies, ensuring readiness for patient visits and cleaning rooms between patients.
• Assists with routine and specialty procedures.
• Schedules follow-up appointments or referrals and performs clerical duties such as photocopying, scanning, and faxing.
• Handles telephone messaging and in-person screening with appropriate follow-up.
• Responds to emergency situations.
• Respects and maintains patient privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program or one (1) year of related experience (in addition to the one year required to meet the experience requirement) and certification may substitute for the training program.
• One year of related experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Certification as a Medical Assistant (one of the following):
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologists (AMT), or
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), or
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing.

Physical Requirements

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
