About the role

This position is a Medical Assistant II role within the Wake Forest Health Network: Greensboro Medical Plaza Northwest - Surgery: General department. The role is full-time with benefits eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice, follows all policies and procedures, and maintains training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care.
  • Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.).
  • Affords assistance to providers with or performs procedures as ordered.
  • Carries out lab-related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking.
  • Completes CLIA approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards.
  • Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
  • Demonstrates effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
  • Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately. Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order, and areas are appropriately stocked.
  • May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates.
  • May serve as a role champion or on a committee.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) may be required within 1 year in select areas
  • Successful completion of Atrium Health’s competency assessment
  • Current Medical Assistant certification from one of the following: CMA from AAMA, CCMA from NHA, NCMA from NCCT, RMA from AMT, NCMSMA from NHCWA, NRCMA from NAHP, NRMA from NRMA
  • Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span
  • Ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs
  • Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental standards

Skills

  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills, within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, team members and physicians
  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems
  • Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience

Pay

$22.90 - $34.35 per hour

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8a-5p, no weekends or holidays
