About the role

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking an 80% - 100% Medical Assistant II to work in the Organ Transplant Center.

Responsibilities

  • Supports organ transplant patients.
  • Facilitates the smooth flow of patients through the clinic through interactions with patients, families, and staff.
  • Assists in clinic with physical examinations of patients and related treatments, including patient history, medication records, allergies, and immunizations.
  • Manages internal and external medical records to ensure accurate and complete data availability for patient appointments.
  • Administers routine oral, rectal, or injectable medications not requiring high-level skill or nursing judgment.
  • Performs routine laboratory tests such as urinalysis and blood work, and performs electrocardiograms and x-rays as needed.
  • Identifies vaccination needs for specific patient populations.
  • Performs related clerical tasks including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and providing information to other departments.
  • Affords assistance in obtaining insurance prior authorizations.

Requirements

  • Certification OR registration as a Medical Assistant OR completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program, OR
  • Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology (include educational transcripts during application process)

Schedule

Monday-Friday, Shift rotating between hours 0730-1600/0800-1630. If not 100% line, must be available to work Tues/Wed/Friday with additional FTE work hours for the week on Monday/Thursday, rotating schedule to be determined. No weekend or holiday coverage. Coverage for M-F rotating late schedule required
