Responsibilities
- Participate in a competent plan of care that identifies patient problems, expected outcomes and addresses preventative measures
- Deliver care that is specific to the age of the patient
- Contribute information provided by the patient or family for assessment
- Evaluate outcomes of interventions within your scope and follow directions on a modified plan of care
- Greet and transport/escort patients to exam rooms
- Ask patient for and document in HER complaint, symptoms, duration of symptom(s)
- Obtain history and review medications list
- Ask patient if they need any medication refills and queue refills in HER
- Document all drug and other allergies
- Document smoking history
- Take vital signs
- Alert provider when patient is ready
- Prepare special equipment if necessary
Requirements
- Graduate of an Accredited Medical Assistant program or has obtained a Medical Assistant Certification (AAMA, CCMA, RMA, NCMA)
- If you have a high school diploma or equivalent and are a graduate of an accredited medical assistant program or have obtained a medical assistant certification (AAMA, CCMA, RMA, NCMA), you are an ideal candidate
- If you have a certificate, it must be maintained if you are not a graduate of an accredited MA program
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required, and: 1) graduate of and Accredited Medical Assistant program or 2) graduate of a Medical Assistant training program, plus a minimum of 5 years of MA experience and must have passed a Medical Assistant Certification Exam (AAMA, CCMA, RMA, NCMA)
- Note: Those hired prior to May 2017 without a certification are grandfathered
Qualifications
- Licensure, Certification, Registration: Certification required if not a graduate of an accredited medical assistant program
- Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required to communicate with patients, family members, physicians and other health care providers, as well as other colleagues. Knowledge of medical terminology. Must possess strong problem solving abilities and analytical skills to ensure patient’s needs are met. Must possess basic computer skills to input and retrieve clinical information, as well as patient registration and appointment information. Utilizes critical thinking and good judgement in performance of tasks. Must possess good organizational skills and the ability to multitask and to prioritize daily assignments to ensure smooth work flow
